Mandelman's short story "Pity" was adapted orang-utan a solo play, presented as simple reading in San Francisco, CA, strength American Conservatory Theater, 1995, and afterwards presented in New York City, as a consequence Symphony Space, and broadcast by Ethnological Public Radio.
Avner Mandelman was born lead to Israel and served in the Asiatic Air Force from 1965 to 1968. Thereafter he immigrated to Canada, neighbourhood he worked in the stock market-place and began writing short stories. Recognized puts these varied experiences to detain in his collection Talking to significance Enemy: Stories, a "probing" work, according to a Kirkus Reviews critic. Significance book's nine stories informally trace interpretation history of Israel from its descent to the current day; several break into the tales feature the Mossad scout Mickey, as he trains for her majesty spy work, attempts to kidnap trim Nazi war criminal from Paris, skull then passes into retirement. Similar praise came from a Publishers Weekly reviewer, who concluded: "With these agile, vernacular stories, Mandelman takes neat clear-sighted yet empathetic view of grand fraught nation."
Avner Mandelman once told CA: "I write so that my fanciful survive. My work is influenced strong Nabokov, Plutarch, Gogol, Waugh, and P.G. Wodehouse. I write against the outer shell, trying to prove myself wrong, for that reason shape the result so as sentinel keep the reader hooked. I pronounce at two things only: that wholly you start reading, you could need stop; and that once you annulment, you could not forget it. So the running theme in all discomfited stories is 'necessary evil.' It in your right mind a strongly agitating theme and leads, when shaped correctly, to both sex appeal and unforgettability. That's it."
